Taylor Electric

It had been quite sometime since I was able to join up with the Portland Urban Sketchers, but was finally able to meet up with them at the old burnt out Taylor Electric building in SE Portland this past Saturday. The building in an interesting expanse of rusted metal, burnt columns, twisted window bars, and collapsing concrete. I’m not much for sketching or drawing architecture, it just doesn’t interest me much, but this building, in all it’s dilapidated glory held my focus long enough to get in one decent sketch. I wanted to show the expanse across the factory floor through a barred window and a doorway. I tried my best to get that across, but it proved rather difficult. Regardless of the success of the sketch, it was fun to be out with the Urban Sketching peeps and look at all their great artwork and get some on location sketching done for the first time in a long time.
